Accident at Bridge Worksite Leaves 6 Dead, 10 Missing in China
The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on Friday at a construction site on the Qinghai section of the Sichuan-Qinghai Railway. At the time, 16 workers were present, according to an initial investigation.
In response to the disaster, the Ministry of Emergency Management swiftly deployed a task force to the scene to oversee rescue operations. Authorities have called for a full assessment of those involved in the accident, with specialized rescue teams mobilized to search for workers who may have fallen into the water.
A spokesperson for the ministry emphasized the need to quickly identify the cause of the incident and implement measures to prevent similar accidents in the future.
The bridge, currently under construction over the Yellow River, is a steel truss arch design. The main span was scheduled to be completed by the end of this month.
Over 380 rescuers from various agencies, including emergency management, fire services, transportation, public security, health, and armed police, are actively involved in the operation. Additionally, 66 vehicles and 23 boats have been deployed to assist with the search and rescue efforts.
