Kosovo Parliament Approves Albin Kurti’s New Government

(MENAFN) Kosovo’s parliament on Wednesday approved a new government headed by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, resolving a political impasse that lasted over a year. Out of 120 lawmakers, 66 voted in favor of the Cabinet, 49 opposed it, and five abstained.

Kurti, leader of the Vetevendosje (Self-Determination) party, addressed parliament, asserting that the 45-year prison sentences sought by prosecutors for former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) commanders in The Hague “misrepresent the truth.”

He outlined key priorities for his administration’s four-year term, pledging €1 billion ($1.18 billion) in defense spending, major investments in renewable energy and water infrastructure, and initiatives to boost Kosovo’s manufacturing sector. Kurti also emphasized support for women’s employment and vowed that the minimum wage would rise in line with economic growth.

On relations with Serbia, Kurti stressed that ties would be normalized through a “constructive and creative dialogue.”

The new Cabinet includes Glauk Konjufca as First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, and Donika Gervalla-Schwarz as Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice. Fikrim Damka, head of the Kosovo Democratic Turkish Party (KDTP), assumes the role of Third Deputy Prime Minister, responsible for Minority Affairs and Cooperation.

The parliamentary session concluded after the Cabinet members took their official oaths of office.
