Visit Montgomery County and County Historian Promote “Colonial Life” Outreach Kit

as Part of America 250 Commemoration

FONDA, N.Y. — Visit Montgomery County and the Montgomery County Department of History and Archives are promoting the “Colonial Life” Outreach Kit as part of local efforts commemorating the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution.

Developed by the Montgomery County Department of History and Archives, the outreach kit provides educational materials focused on colonial life and Revolutionary-era history in Montgomery County. The program is available for use by schools, libraries, summer programs and community organizations.

The kit includes reproduced historical documents, maps, military records, illustrations, and educational materials designed to help participants learn about daily life, government, trade, and conflict during the colonial period.

Materials included in the kit feature:

• Revolutionary-era deeds and military appointments

• Historic maps of Montgomery County and Mohawk Valley raid routes

• Indigenous history resources and documents

• Watercolor illustrations by Rufus Grider

• Powder horn illustrations and artifact charts

• Laminated educational materials and resource binders

“The Colonial Life Outreach Kit enhances access to our local history for residents and students through hands‑on reproductions of archival documents, maps, and other historical materials, an especially valuable resource during this America 250 commemoration period,” County Historian Kelly Yacobucci Farquhar said.

“I commend our County Historian for having the foresight to develop this unique learning opportunity,” County Executive Pete Vroman said. “The Colonial Life Outreach Kit will be a unique tool, not only during the commemoration of America 250, but for years to come.”
